Routie beta is here!

San Francisco cityHey guys, I know it’s been a long time since my last post here, and I know that one of the things that was on my to-do list when I was returning from San Francisco was to “continue in frequent blogging”, but I was simply too busy finishing my app, Routie. I thought that it will be done much sooner, I didn’t met almost any of my personal deadlines for milestones in the project. Everything simply took way longer than I expected it to. But, I have good news! As the title says; the beta version is ready!

I spent most of the last weeks coding and finishing what was needed to finish. I worked on it full-time, from morning to evening and even on weekends, with a few breaks. I almost don’t event want to tell how long it is since the first route was tracked with the very early-stage version of the app (it’s been exactly 2 years and one day ago, but pssst!). There are many reasons why it took so long and I don’t really want to talk about them now, because I am exhausted from the last couple of days. Maybe another time I’ll write whole post dedicated to it.

Now to the point: I have already sent recruiting link to a couple of people and received some feedback from them, which is nice, but majority of the tester (or more specifically I-want-them-to-be-testers) will receive it tomorrow, after a good sleep which I am really looking forward to.

Not to be too calm about this, I really am very excited about this, just too tired to show it here. The last weeks (basically the time since I returned from WWDC), I worked on it really a lot and put to rest everything else. I almost feel like this kind of guy who only looks for himself and doesn’t value friendships at all. But it’s not the case, really. I just know that if I haven’t done it this way, I wouldn’t finish it, ever. And now with the approaching release of iOS 7, the time is really ticking. I didn’t want to just wait for it and toss away my iOS 6 design completely. I am sorry to those who might think that I don’t care about them because of this, because I do, it’s just that at this time, I really needed to finish it no matter what, for various reasons. If it means that I am a selfish careless guy – that’s something I can’t tell, and certainly hope is not true.

Anyway, I am really glad that the beta is finally out. There are still some things that needs to be done before the release, but most of the work is behind me, and that is definitely a huge relief. And to those who think of my ‘carelessness’ as something personal towards them (and happen to be reading this, which would be quite a coincidence, but still..), don’t take it personally, I really am ashamed, it’s just like I said – I had to do it this way.

If you would be interested in trying the app out (it’s mostly for runners/cyclists or people who are sports fans in general, and the slots are limited, so please bear that in mind), don’t hesitate to contact me (either by email: lukas[at]glimsoft[dot]com, or on Twitter (@luksape).

Last of all, I want to apologise for all the grammar mistakes I made here. It’s almost midnight and I am really tired, so this probably isn’t one of my brightest English moments. And keep an eye on routieapp.com, the final version will be soon in the App Store!
